Yaser Hamed’s role for NorthEast United FC
Yaser Hamed was NorthEast United FC’s final foreign signing ahead of the ISL 2023-24 season. The Palestinian international was under NorthEast United’s radar for quite some time and was finally signed ahead of the current season.
Hamed fulfilled the Asian player quota for the Highlanders. He made his debut for the Highlanders in their opening ISL game against Mumbai City FC in September 2023. NEUFC lost that game 2-1 against the Islanders at home. Hamed has made eight appearances for the Highlanders during his stay with the club.
He was the second choice centre-back behind club captain and Spanish defender Michel Zobaco. And as a result, Yaser started most games from the bench. He started three matches and came on as a substitute in five games.

Born and brought up in Spain, Hamed was raised by Palestinian and Basque parents. He attended the esteemed Athletic Bilbao Academy, where he began honing his talents at the age of ten. Hamed has represent various Spanish teams throughout his career.
He joined Al Masry SC in Egypt, Al-Rayyan in Qatar and also played for Al Qadsia SC in Kuwait following his departure from Spain. Hamed made his debut for the Palestine national team in 2019 and has established himself as a regular on the international scene.
Hamed has made 26 appearances for his national team and has scored five goals in the process. He is a very versatile defender and can operate as a centre-back, right back and a left-back.
