Kalinga Super Cup 2024: East Bengal FC's road to final

East Bengal have won all their matches in the Kalinga Super Cup till now.

After securing the runner-up position in the inaugural season of 2018, East Bengal have once again advanced to the final of the ongoing season of Kalinga Super Cup which is being conducted at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

Following their first-place finish in the group stage, East Bengal overcame Jamshedpur FC in the semi-finals, propelling them nearer to the coveted title. Their next challenge will be against Odisha FC in the tournament’s final. 

Delving into the statistics, Cleiton Silva has emerged as the standout performer for East Bengal FC in the Kalinga Super Cup this season with four goals from four matches.

East Bengal FC’s road to final of Kalinga Super Cup 2024.

East Bengal were placed in Group A of Kalinga Super Cup 2024, alongside Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Sreenidi Deccan FC and Hyderabad FC. Without losing a single match in the group stage they topped the chart with nine points from three games. 

Match 1 – Hyderabad FC 

On January 9, 2024, East Bengal competed against Hyderabad FC in their inaugural match of the tournament, emerging victorious with a score of 3-2. The team’s success was attributed to Cleiton Silva’s brace and Saul Crespo’s goal.

Match 2 – Sreenidi Deccan 

On January 14, 2024, they competed in their second match against I-League heavyweights Sreenidi Deccan FC, emerging victorious with a 2-1 score. Hijazi Maher and Javi Siverio each contributed a goal, propelling the Red & Gold Brigade to their second triumph in the tournament.

Match 3 – Mohun Bagan Super Giant

On January 19, 2024, a highly anticipated match took place at the Kalinga Stadium, pitting East Bengal against their arch-rivals, Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The Kolkata Derby drew a crowd of 6,457 enthusiastic fans who came to witness the thrilling event. Despite an early lead by Mohun Bagan, East Bengal responded resolutely, securing a 3-1 victory, thanks to goals from Cleiton Silva and Nandhakumar Sekar.

Match 4 – Jamshedpur FC (Semi-final)

After advancing to the semi-finals, the team competed against Jamshedpur FC on January 24, 2024. The match appeared to be a manageable challenge for Carles Cuadrat’s side, as they salvaged a 2-0 victory. Jordan defender Hijazi Maher and Javier Siverio got their names on the scoresheet.

Match 5 – Odisha FC (Final)

The final is scheduled on January 28, 2024 against Odisha FC at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
