Mumbai City expressed their condolences through social media.

Following the unfortunate death of Mumbai City FC young forward Vikram Partap Singh’s father, the Islanders will be sporting black armbands during the pivotal match at the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneshwar on Thursday night as Petr Kratky’s Mumbai City FC and Sergio Lobera’s rising Odisha FC will square off in the second Kalinga Super Cup semi-final.

In light of the sad news, the Islanders decided to wear black armbands when they play Odisha FC on Thursday. They made this announcement on social media. The social media post says this in its entirety.

“All of us at Mumbai City are devastated to learn of the passing of Vikram Partap Singh’s father. We’re sending our love and all the strength to Vikram and his family in this truly difficult time. In memory of Vikram’s father, we will be wearing black armbands tomorrow when we take to the pitch against Odisha FC. We are all with you, Vikram.”

After winning all three of their Group Stage matches, Mumbai City FC and Odisha FC emerged as the eventual table toppers in their respective groups. Odisha FC has gained momentum since Sergio Lobera joined the Juggernauts and is currently enjoying a miraculous run.

Conversely, since Petr Kratky joined from Melbourne City, an A-League team that is Mumbai City FC’s sister club, the Islanders have only dropped one game in their first-leg Indian top-flight matchup against Kerala Blasters FC, the league’s top team.

As the defending ISL shield Champions take on the defending champions of the Super Cup, the winner of the tie will lock horns with Kolkata giants East Bengal FC in the finale of the premier football tournament on January 28, 2024, at the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneshwar.
