Odisha FC are the defending champions of Super Cup.
Odisha FC is going to face East Bengal FC in the final of the Kalinga Super Cup 2024 on January 28, 2024 at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
After concluding their group stage without a loss, they secured a 1-0 victory against Mumbai City FC to advance to the tournament final. This will mark their second consecutive appearance in the Super Cup final, as they also hold the title of defending champions by virtue of their victory in the previous year’s tournament.
Ahead of the upcoming Kalinga Super Cup 2024 final, the head coach of Odisha FC, Sergio Lobera and player Carlos Delgado attended the press conference and shared valuable insights and discussed the team’s preparations for the match.
Preparations for the match
No doubt, the Juggernauts will not allow any opportunity to slip through their fingers during the upcoming crucial match. They will be fully prepared for this significant event of the year.
“The preparation is done with a lot of excitement. We know we have the responsibility to keep the trophy here. But, the most important thing is we should enjoy this final. It’s a big game for everyone, for players, for coaches, for staff and for supporters”, coach Sergio Lobera stated regarding the preparations ahead of the match.
A look towards the second Super Cup
Odisha FC bears the responsibility of defending their championship title, which adds extra pressure to the team as they aim to retain the trophy in front of their home crowd.
When asked about winning the trophy for the second time, Carlos replied, “Yes, tomorrow we are defending the title. It will also be a difficult game for us but we are ready for it. And we are working well, in a good way.”
Cleition’s form in East Bengal side
Cleiton Silva has established himself as one of the most prolific players for East Bengal FC in the tournament. His presence undoubtedly poses a significant threat to Odisha FC.
Coach Lobera looked determined to face the whole team and plan accordingly instead of focusing on a single player.
“I don’t think one or two players can win a trophy for you. We win games and win trophies as a team. There are no special plans regarding one, two or three players of the opponent team. The plan is about the full squad, the full team we are going to play against. And the most important thing for me is to put the focus on ourselves. We need to believe in our style of play and in our ideas”, he added.
