Hopefully will get into the finals, asserts Sergio Lobera

After triumphing in each of the group stage matches in the Kalinga Super Cup, Odisha FC has secured a place in the tournament’s semi-finals. Their upcoming match against Mumbai City FC is scheduled to take place on January 25, 2024, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. 

Ahead of the semifinal match tomorrow, the head coach of Odisha FC, Sergio Lobera, participated in the press conference. During this event, he emphasized various aspects and approaches the team will employ in facing the upcoming challenge.

Finishing at top of the group

After convincingly overcoming Bengaluru FC and Inter Kashi FC, the Juggernauts encountered a formidable challenge against FC Goa. However, they ultimately emerged victorious with a 3-2 scoreline, which helped them to finish at the top of the group.

“I’m very happy that we finished at the top of the group and to be able to play the semifinal match tomorrow. Now we are going to face Mumbai City FC, which is also going to be a big challenge for us”, coach Sergio Lobera while expressing his appreciation for his team’s performance.

Mumbai City’s new coach 

In December 2023, Petr Kratky assumed the position of head coach at Mumbai City FC. When queried about evaluating his impact as the new coach, Sergio responded, “I’m sure he will do an amazing job. It’s not easy to come and coach a team in the middle of a season, especially when you are working in India for the first time.”

Looking ahead for the match

Mumbai City FC is expected to approach the match against Odisha FC with great determination and skill, aiming to deliver a stellar performance and secure a victory in front of the home crowd.

“We both are working well as a team. If you want to win the trophy, you need to play the best teams in the competitions. Tomorrow, it will be a difficult game against a very good team who are good at their job. And we are also excited for the game, and hopefully we get into the finals”, Coach Sergio expressed great enthusiasm for the upcoming match.

Importance of winning the Super Cup

Odisha FC emerged victorious in the Super Cup last season, and their current performance in the ongoing season reflects confidence and consistency in every match.

When asked about the importance of winning the Super Cup, he replied, “It’s very important to win the trophy. If we win, it will be our first in the season. This will make the fans happy and help us to provide the possibility of playing at another level.”
