Gerardo Martino will aim to lead Inter Miami to Silverware this season

As the season opens, Inter Miami will host Salt Lake, and Martino will have high expectations to deliver success this term. With the signing of Luis Suarez, Inter Miami will be stepping up the competition.

There are many world-class players on Inter Miami’s team, including Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, as well as emerging players such as Noah Allen and Tomas Aviles. With the signings Inter Miami has made, Gerardo Martino has all the tools this season to take Inter Miami to silverware. 

Here is Inter Miami’s predicted lineup for MLS 2024:

Formation: 5-3-2

Drake Callender (Goalkeeper)

Last season, the USA International started 33 games for Inter Miami and finished with a save percentage of 69.7%. In contrast to his five clean sheets in 33 matches last year, he will aim for a better performance this year. In order to lead Inter Miami to glory, he will need to perform at his peak. 

Jordi Alba (Left Wing Back)

As one of the most successful fullbacks in the last decade, the former Barcelona player has made the left-back position his own after signing on a free transfer. During the past season, Jordi Alba played 13 matches for Inter Miami and scored one goal and assisted two others. He will aim to play a crucial role this season for Inter Miami. 

Tomas Aviles (Centre Back)

The Under 20 Argentina International has been trusted by Gerardo Martino ever since signing as a head coach. Last season, he made 11 appearances for the team scoring one goal and assisting another. During his time with Racing Club, he made 20 appearances and became one of the best centre-backs around. Because of his potential, Inter Miami signed him. 

Serhiy Kryvtsov (Centre Back)

During his time at Shakhtar Donetsk, he played 224 matches and rose to fame as a centre-back. He has made 26 appearances for the team last season, but was unable to lead them to the top of the league. He signed for the club as a free agent and has now become a centre-back in his own right. 

Noah Allen (Centre Back)

Since breaking into the first team, Noah Allen has been an ever present in the team. The USA under 20 international is a versatile player who can play a handful of positions. He is a defender by temperament but can also play as a left-back with an eye for goal. He made 19 appearances for the team last season, of which 14 were as a starting eleven. He scored one goal and contributed two assists. 

DeAndre Yedlin (Right Wing Back)

Over the past few seasons, DeAndre has been a standout player for Inter Miami. At thirty, he has a wealth of experience playing at high level having played in the Premier League with Newcastle United and in the Champions League with Galatasaray. He is the vice-captain of the team and sets a good example for the team. 

Sergio Busquets (Defensive Midfielder)

Among the best midfielders of this generation, Sergio Busquets is a deep-playing midfielder who amazes opposition with his one-touch passes. With his calmness and ability to play killer passes under pressure, he makes the game look so easy. Before joining Inter Miami, Busquets played for Barcelona for 700 appearances and won 32 trophies. 

Julian Gressel (Attacking Midfielder)

Having played for multiple sides in MLS, Julian Gressel is a household name. Despite competition from other clubs for his services, Inter Miami signed him on a free transfer after having an extraordinary season with Columbus Crew. In last year’s season, he played 33 times for the team, scoring four goals and assisting six, attracting Inter Miami’s attention. 

David Ruiz (Attacking Midfielder)

As a 19-year-old Honduras international, he is already established as a regular for Honduras and Inter Miami. After breaking into the first team last season, he has never looked back, making 20 appearances for the club, 14 of which were starting. Gerardo Martino expects him to provide goals and assists for the team this season after scoring two goals and providing one assist in his first season as a player at Inter Miami. 

Lionel Messi (Striker)

Known for his goals and assists, Lionel Messi is one of the greatest players ever. He is a treat to watch and will play a critical role in leading Inter Miami to the silverware this season. After leading Argentina to the World Cup win, Lionel Messi has won eight Ballon D’ors and deserved to win this year. It was his first season as Inter Miami’s head player to win League Cup silverware, so he will be hoping to repeat the feat this season. 

Luis Suarez (Striker)

In addition to the multiple accolades in his locker room, Luis Suarez has been one of the best forwards of this generation. In the Brazilian league, he led Gremio to a very close second finish, finishing just two points short of Palmeires. He scored 17 goals for Gremio in 33 matches and added 11 assists to the team during his time there. In this season, he will be tasked with leading Inter Miami to silverware.
