Kawasaki will enter this AFC Champions League clash with a one-goal advantage.
Kawasaki Frontale will be determined to start on the front foot when they host Shandong Taishan in the second leg of their AFC Champions League 2023/24 tie on Tuesday.
Kawasaki looked to be cruising to a resounding win in last week’s first leg but a resilient Shandong hit back as the Japanese side had to be satisfied with a 3-2 win.
Head coach Toru Oniki admitted his Kawasaki side had been pushed hard by Shandong, even after the China PR club found themselves trailing 2-0.
Oniki, however, was still pleased with the one-goal advantage and is confident Kawasaki will advance to a quarter-final meeting against either Thailand’s Bangkok United FC or Yokohama F. Marinos of Japan.
Shandong, meanwhile, will feel they can go the distance after their rousing performance in the first leg.
Their determination to keep pushing resulted in Jadson scoring with a late header in the first leg and Shandong can be expected to play the second leg as they did the first – with drive and determination.
Kawasaki Frontale (JPN) v Shandong Taishan FC (CHN)
Venue: Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium (Kawasaki)
Kick-off: Tuesday, 17:00 (UTC+9)
