Mumbai City FC are riding high on recent victories against East Bengal and Bengaluru FC, showcasing impressive form as they gear up to face Chennaiyin FC away from home. With back-to-back clean-sheets, Petr Kratky’s squad aim to maintain their defensive solidity.
However, they are approaching the upcoming fixture with caution, recognizing Chennaiyin FC’s formidable line-up and the experienced coaching prowess they possess. The clash promises to be a stern test for the Islanders.
Head coach Petr Kratky and defender Akash Mishra acknowledged the challenge posed in the pre-match press conference:
A difficult game
Chennaiyin FC recently defeated Ivan Vukomanovic’s Kerala Blasters in front of their home fans and will be looking to repeat the same against Mumbai City FC. Recognizing the same Petr Kratky said, “It will be very difficult game. We have to be switched on from the first minute because Chennai are very good team and have quality in it. The coach is good, they will try to win the game. They are playing at home and it will be difficult for us. But we are looking forward to the game and the environment.”
Collective team effort
The head coach also highlighted that it’s a collective effort from every individual in the team to salvage the recent clean-sheets. He said, “It’s collective. We always say that everyone defends and everyone attacks. We are a team. It’s not just about the back-four or the midfielders, but it’s the entire team and they are doing really well.”
Akash Mishra added, “It’s the same like training. We play the same way as we train. Of course, we have Rahul Bheke, Tiri, Krouma, Mehtab and I am the youngest one there. But the experience and guidance we get by playing with them improves our defensive structure.”
Chennaiyin FC’s defence
Though Chennaiyin FC haven’t been at their best this season, their defence has certainly improved. Akash Mishra highlighted the same, expressing that they will go into the match with the same mentality they showcase against any other ISL team.
“It will be difficult. When we play away, the opponents have home advantage. We will approach this game like any other ISL game and will go with the mentality to win away. We have trust in our forwards, and if we defend properly, then our forwards will have chances to score goals.”
