These goalkeepers have regularly safeguarded their team’s goal in the ISL.

In the modern era, goalkeepers have seen a change in how they are perceived. Currently, the man between the sticks is more than just a shot-stopper. He is the first attacker and the goalkeeper’s footwork has become a point of reference while assessing their quality. Hence, the custodians have had to raise the bar to fit into the starting line-ups of their respective teams.

In all the years the Indian Super League (ISL) has existed, the goalkeeping on display has been impressive. It is also clear that the fitness and shot-stopping abilities of the goalkeepers in the league have increased dramatically over the years. The league has witnessed some of the best custodians playing on the Indian subcontinent, leaving attackers amazed with their abilities under the crossbar. That said, let’s take a look at five goalkeepers who have the most number of clean sheets in the ISL 2023-24 season:

5. Arshdeep Singh (FC Goa) – 7

On 30 June, 2022, FC Goa completed the signing of Arshdeep Singh on a two-year deal. On 21 October, 2022, he made his debut for Goa (against Chennaiyin FC) coming in as a 59th-minute substitute for Dheeraj Singh who suffered a head injury.

Fans were surprised to see Arshdeep becoming the first-choice goalkeeper for Goa instead of Dheeraj Singh but he has proved all those people wrong with his strong performance this season. FC Goa this season have been very strong in defence and a lot of credit goes to Arshdeep as well as their defence.

4. Vishal Kaith (Mohun Bagan) – 7

Vishal Kaith, the formidable goalkeeper for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, commands the box with unmatched agility and reflexes. Renowned for his shot-stopping prowess and confident ball distribution, Kaith’s imposing presence instills assurance in the defense. A rising star in Indian football, he continues to impress with each match, earning accolades.

3. Prabhsukhan Singh Gill (East Bengal FC) – 7

On 23 October 2020, Lachenpa signed for Indian Super League club Mumbai City on a four-year deal. He was the club’s second-choice goalkeeper, behind Amrinder Singh. He won the Indian Super League Shield and the Indian Super League Trophy in his first season. In the 2024 Kalinga Super Cup, Phurba was named as the Mumbai City captain for the first time (against I-League club Gokulam Kerala FC).

Phurba got his first clean-sheet of the season on 8 December, 2023, in a clash against Bengaluru FC. This was followed up by two more consecutive clean-sheets, against FC Goa and East Bengal, respectively.

1. Amrinder Singh (Odisha FC) – 9

When it comes to goalkeeping, Amrinder Singh is as solid as they come. Singh joined Odisha FC ahead of the 2022-23 ISL season on a one-year deal and played a big part in their success as they qualified for their first-ever ISL playoffs. He made his debut in the first match against Jamshedpur FC in a 3-2 win. He made a total of 55 saves across 21 games while registering two clean-sheets.

He made a significant contribution in the Super Cup and Odisha went on to win their first-ever trophy since the club’s inception. Amrinder Singh is known for his constant communication and leadership on the pitch. Moreover, till now he has played 13 times for the Indian national team.
