The match witnessed East Bengal’s first ever victory against Chennaiyin FC.

Chennaiyin FC made a strong start in the first half and were slightly the better side. East Bengal also gave them a tough competition and put up a good fight. Cleiton Silva tested the keeper with a long ranger before Jordan Murray and Vincy Barretto tried their luck on goal, but couldn’t register anything.

Connor Shields and Rahim Ali also made a couple of attempts on goal, but couldn’t produce anything substantial. The score remained at 0-0 at the end of the first half as both sides failed to open the scoring despite a few attempts. East Bengal made three changes at the break and looked a bit different from the get go.

However, Chennaiyin FC were the side that had the better chance to go ahead when Jordan Murray’s header on target was saved by Prabhsukhan Gill. Nandhakumar Sekhar continued his fine form and scored the opening goal for his side in the 66th minute before Cleiton Silva came very close to adding a second goal.

Chennaiyin FC made desperate attempts to restore parity and pushed bodies forward in the process

Carles Cuadrat’s changes at the half-time were absolutely spot on as the difference was very much visible in the way East Bengal operated in the second half.
