Manolo felt even a draw would have been a good result.
FC Goa’s unbeaten run came to an end in clash against Mohun Bagan Super Giant in their home ground. A 75th-minute Dimitri Petratos strike made the difference between the two sides as the Gaurs lost their first league game.
FC Goa created very less chances in the game and was not up to mark coming in as the stronger and in-form side. FC Goa remained in the second position in the table with 28 points from 13 matches.
After their defeat on their home soil, Manolo Marquez spoke in front of the media. Let’s dive into the conversation.
Expectations
Marquez expressed the inevitability of occasional defeats in football, stating, “In football, it’s very difficult to win or draw every game. One day you have to lose.”
Takeaways from the loss
After a disappointing night, there were certainly things to learn from the game. The Spanish tactician highlighted the spirit and character of a team in the face of defeat, suggesting that their reaction would determine their true quality. “It’s how we will react. If we react as a competitive team, it means that we are a good team,” Marquez remarked, underlining the significance of bouncing back from setbacks.
Despite the disappointment of losing, Marquez remained sensible, acknowledging that every team experiences moments of hardship. “Now, if we lose two, three consecutive games, it means that we don’t deserve to be on top or second in the table,” he stated, emphasizing the need for consistency to maintain a competitive position in the league standings.
Chances
Manolo stated that they knew one day they were going to lose. Marquez offered his assessment of the performance, suggesting that the result was perhaps a fair reflection of the game. “My feeling is that in another game that we won, maybe we didn’t deserve, and today was even, because the goal even was not a chance, even I think that draw today would have been fair,” he expressed.
