Hyderabad FC are the only ISL side without a win in ISL 2023-24.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant are eager to get back to winning ways in the Indian Super League (ISL) when they host a struggling Hyderabad FC side at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday (10th February).

The Mariners are still looking for their first win under new head coach Antonio Habas, and are aware of how important it’ll be to get a win and keep their title ambitions in tact.

The Stakes

Mohun Bagan

The Mariners were barely able to scrap through a draw against rivals East Bengal in the recent Kolkata derby and are not being helped by injury issues at all. Habas is still trying to implement his playing style and tactics into the squad, but time is running out for Mohun Bagan to still at least remain in the race for the league championship.

They have the perfect chance to get back to winning ways against a Hyderabad FC side rooted to the bottom of the ISL table. Losing or even drawing this game could be disastrous, as it could not only end their league championship dreams, but pose even more questions on the ability of this squad and further demoralize fans. The Mariners have to bring their best to the table to get a big win and regain some winning momentum going forward.

Hyderabad FC

Hyderabad FC’s season has been horribly damaged by off-the-pitch instances and they are left with a squad with only one foreign player and a host of young, inexperienced players. With that being said, the Nawabs are still playing some spirited football and are trying their best to put on a valiant show for the fans.

They are definitely the underdogs against Mohun Bagan and are well aware that the majority expect them to lose. The youngsters can use this as a driving force, producing some energetic, free-flowing attacking football to put the Mariners under pressure and get a decent result. Losing this game won’t really matter considering how their form is, but getting even a draw can be a massive boost of confidence for the youngsters.

Injury and Team News

Mohun Bagan are expected to miss defenders Brendan Hamill and Anwar Ali, who got injured in the derby. Deepak Tangri and Armando Sadiku are suspended for this one, while questions remain on the fitness of Asish Rai and Liston Colaco.

Hyderabad FC should have a fully fit unit available for this one.

Players to Watch

Kiyan Nassiri (Mohun Bagan)

Amid their poor run of form in recent months, Kiyan Nassiri has proven to be a bright spark for Mohun Bagan and really blossomed into a reliable first-team regular this season. The 23-year-old has played in a number of different positions for the Mariners and showcased incredible drive and skill in outwitting opposition players.

Nassiri will try to use his momentum to shake up the Hyderabad FC backline, making clever runs in behind the defenders and finding the ball in promising positions in the final third. He will try to create big chances for teammates with his slick final delivery and also sneak into empty areas in the box to improve his goal-scoring chances and also add more unpredictability to his side’s attacking pattern.

Abdul Rabeeh (Hyderabad FC)

Even though Abdul Rabeeh is yet to contribute a goal for Hyderabad FC in the ISL, he has definitely been an exciting player to watch with his performances in recent games. The India U-23 international has been a breath of fresh air for this young Hyderabad FC frontline, tormenting defenders with his bursting runs into the final third and showcasing impressive awareness to trick opposition players in key areas.

Rabeeh will try to use his speedy runs to get in behind the Mohun Bagan backline, but needs to improve his final product. If the 23-year-old can nail his final product, then he can be a really tormenting figure for Hyderabad FC in the upcoming game and help create genuine goal-scoring chances for the Nawabs.
