ISL 2023-24: Mohun Bagan vs Jamshedpur FC: Preview, Predicted Lineup, injury news, H2H, telecast details

Mohun Bagan have kept three clean sheets in their last four Indian Super League matches.

Mohun Bagan look to maintain their charge towards the Indian Super League (ISL) shield title when they host a confident Jamshedpur FC side at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Friday.

A game between two in-form teams who are unbeaten since the beginning of the ISL 2023-24 second-leg, this is expected to be a competitive affair with potentially lucrative rewards awaiting the victor.

The Stakes

Mohun Bagan

Antonio Habas’ side have been able to climb back into contention to potentially win the ISL Shield title after going through a resurgent period under the new coach. Mohun Bagan finally have their consistency and groove back, playing with rigour and intent to win every game as well as pressurize their fellow title challengers.

After the draw against Odisha FC which the coach termed as a ‘fair result’, Mohun Bagan will be determined to get back to winning ways. A win can keep them right in the mix for the top spot and increase the pressure of those around them. A draw will however only give confidence to their rivals and increase the gap to the top – while a loss can be especially damning and form a major dent to their ISL shield aspirations.

Jamshedpur FC

Jamshedpur FC kept their top-6 hopes alive and well with a thrilling late win over East Bengal recently, continuing their dream run under Khalid Jamil. The Men of Steel are operating as an efficient machine under the new management, being able to carve out results and being a stubborn thorn for their opposition.

Jamshedpur face a daunting task to maintain their unbeaten streak at the Salt Lake Stadium, but have been surprisingly good in away games under Jamil. Even a draw can be a fair result and help them stay afloat in the playoffs race, while a win can help take a huge step forward in their top-6 aspirations. A defeat won’t only end their unbeaten run, but also give confidence to those below them to usurp the Men of Steel and leave Jamil’s side in a precarious position heading into the final league games.

Injury and Team News

Ashique Kuruniyan remains the only injury absentee for the Mariners. Jamshedpur FC are expected to have a fully fit squad.

Players to Watch

Joni Kauko (Mohun Bagan)

Joni Kauko has had a dream return to action for Mohun Bagan after recovering from an injury that kept him out of action for a year. The 33-year-old has been an efficient and driven figure in midfield in recent games and was on fire in the last home game, notching up three assists against NorthEast United.

Kauko will look to produce similar inspiration against a rugged Jamshedpur FC side and needs to be at his proactive best for the clash. The Finland midfielder will look to use his defensive prowess to win back the ball in key areas and then drive his side forward. Kauko also needs to use his creativity to create major chances and find the spaces in between the backline to cause major trouble to the visitors.

Jeremy Manzorro (Jamshedpur FC)

Jeremy Manzorro has found his best role at Jamshedpur FC under Khalid Jamil, having scored five goals in the last four appearances. Manzorro scored an amazing last-gasp free-kick against East Bengal in the last match, and is brimming with confidence. The Frenchman will look to continue his impressive form by helping his side sustain the pressure against Mohun Bagan and also play decisive forward passes on the transitions to create chances.

He’ll also need to put his scoring boots to good use, getting into prime goal-scoring areas and troubling Vishal Kaith with his dangerous long-range efforts. Manzorro will need to help maintain a stable midfield line to keep the Mariners from over running his side and also provide on the other side of the pitch to help his side get a decent result.
