Jamshedpur FC boss Khalid Jamil also provided important injury updates.

Jamshedpur FC thrashed a high-flying Punjab FC 4-0 in an encounter that showed the prowess of the Men of Steel. Daniel Chima found the net with an early goal followed by three strikes in the second half, including a set-piece brace from Jeremy Manzorro.

Head coach Khalid Jamil addressed the media after the exhilarating victory. Below are the excerpts from it.

On play-off aspirations

Jamshedpur FC propelled to the sixth position on the ISL points table after this win. Khalid Jamil was asked about the chances of turning it around at the business end.

He answered, “Actually we don’t see things like that, we go match by match. We have not won at our home ground and we’re thinking about that for now. Whatever happens we will see after that.”

He also spoke about how many points would be enough to secure the sixth position. He said, “Frankly speaking, I have not done such calculations. I am focused on the matches. We played well against good teams in the last two games. Next up, we have a difficult game at home. So let’s take that first.”

Thoughts on the game

The Men of Steel were ruthless in the second half, but things looked to slip at a point. The manager provided a breakdown of his team’s performance.

“All the players worked hard. Whatever we could do, we tried. We got an early goal and secondly, I think the game turned after Rehenesh’s penalty save. Then, we scored an early goal in second half which was followed by two outstanding free-kicks by Jeremy Manzorro. So these things went in our favour tonight.”

Thoughts on Uvais

Muhammed Uvais has been a valuable player under Khalid Jamil. The left-back has improved significantly and the coach was asked to assess his performance till now.

“Uvais is progressing well and showing improvement. He has a good physique and is left footed, but he needs to continue working hard. Despite his promising performance, I had to substitute him due to a yellow card.”

Injury Updates

The tactician concluded with updates on the availability of players for the upcoming matches.

“Alen Stevanovic has just returned from injury, but he is a valuable and versatile player whom we will need in the future. Ritwik Das is out for the season. Komal Thatal is also injured but is expected to return in one or two matches. Hopefully, he will be available for selection in the next match.”
