The Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, Assam, which was constructed in 1962, is poised to undergo renovation, as per India TV. The stadium, whose foundation stone for development was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be transformed into a FIFA standard football-specific ground.

The Nehru Stadium, named after India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, has served as the venue for both cricket and football matches over the years. Notably, the stadium has hosted 13 One Day International (ODI) matches. In addition to it, the ground has also witnessed matches of the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Deodhar Trophy, as well as football matches for the Santosh Trophy and the Federation Cup.

This announcement was made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Assam. Furthermore, a grant of Rs. 300 crore has been committed for the construction of a new sports complex in Chandrapur, in addition to the stadium.
