Currently ranked 118th in the world, the War Elephants will be aiming to start their campaign with a win against India on Sunday

The War Elephants kick-off their 2019 AFC Asian Cup campaign with a Group C encounter against a youthful India side. The Thais will be gunning for glory, with a pretty fiery goalscoring record in recent matches. The Milovan Rajevac-managed side have scored 17 goals in their last six matches.

Although they come into this tournament after having been dethroned as AFF Cup champions, their gaffer has stated that it is behind them. He said, "The AFF Cup is behind us. Yes, we lost but we played with a team that was missing several regulars who were playing for clubs abroad. It is a completely different situation now. We have the best players available and we are determined to advance to the next round."

If they do, it would have been achieved in a group where the other teams are all ranked higher than Thailand.

Having said that, Rajevac said Thailand will not underestimate India. "India have improved greatly over the last few years. Most of their players are now taller, physically stronger and are improving in every way. I also know the India coach and I knwo that he is always doing brilliant work. I am sure he has improved India with his knowledge and experience."

Team captain Teerasil Dangda said Thailand are determined to deliver results for their fans. "They have always supported the national team and with Thailand making the AFC Asian Cup for the first time in 12 years, we want it a tournament the fans will remember."
