Aitana Binmati led Spain to FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 title

Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aiana Bonmati is the favourite to win the prestigious Ballon d'Or in 2023. She won the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 with Spain.

Sport has tipped that the 25-year-old Spaniard is the top contender to win the trophy. Aitana is set to take over from team-mate Alexia Putellas as the best female player in the world. The Barca star won the league and the Champions League last season and then went on to lift the World Cup with Spain.

Aitana Bonmati has already picked up the UEFA Player of the Year Award and now looks set to another another precious prize to her collection.

Lionel Messi is their top contender to win the men's award for the eighth time. If Messi wins the 2023 Ballon d'Or, then he will be the first non-European league player to receive this award. The Argentine won the World Cup with Argentina. Lionel Messi faces competition from Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

This is the fifth Ballon d'Or edition of the women's award. Ada Hegerberg won the first Women's Ballon d'Or in 2018. Megan Rapinoe won the second award after a dominant 2019 season.

Aitana Bonmati's Barcelona teammate Alexia Putellas won the award in 2021 and 2022. If Bonmati wins this year's award then this will be the third award in three years for a Barcelona player.

Olga Carmona is the second favourite to win the award. The Real Madrid defender lifted the World Cup with Spain in the summer. Mary Earps of England and Manchester United is also a contender after her heroics for her team in the World Cup.

Aitana Bonmati is a very highly-rated midfielder and Pep Guardiola also praised her. She would like to end the year with another trophy to her name.
