Canada became the first team to bow out of the last 16.

The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup is already in the round of 16. With the last few matches left, the competition is only going to be more intense and tougher. Only the sides with the best resilience are going to get further in the tournament from here and others will return home.

The battle for the prestigious title is taking place in Canada, Mexico and the USA this year. 1,248 players across 48 teams started their fight to achieve what is known as the pinnacle of football.

Big names like Germany, the Netherlands and Uruguay are already out of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Favourites to win the flagship tournament, France, Spain and England are still alive in the tournament and it will be interesting to see their pathway moving forward.

The Cabo Verde national football team came up with exceptional performances on their debut in the World Cup. They were unbeaten during their group stage run and almost took down Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the round of 32. The Blue Sharks pushed the reigning champions to their limits, but it was not enough for them. They will go back home after an astonishing campaign with their heads held high.

Canada are the first co-hosts to get eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026. They battled quite hard against Morocco in their round of 16 fixture. The Atlas Lions stood tall and will now go forward in the tournament.
