La Albiceleste reached the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
In honour of La Albiceleste’s 2-1 victory over England in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinal, the Argentine Football Association declared July 15 to be “National Football Teams Day.” Argentina overcame a goal deficit against England in the match to advance to the final, where they faced Spain.
Up until the 85th minute, when they were behind due to a goal from Anthony Gordon, Argentina were destined to face France for third place. However, Enzo Fernández levelled the score with a long-range goal.
Later in the second minute of injury time, Lautaro Martínez headed the ball into the net. It gave Argentina the victory when it appeared that the match would go to 30 more minutes of extra time with the score tied at 1-1.

Lionel Messi contributed with assists to both of Argentina’s goals. It was one of the memorable matches for the South American giants. They came from behind to secure their place in a consecutive final of the competition.
However, they couldn’t retain the trophy. They lost the final 1-0 against Spain. La Roja scored in extra time through Ferran Torres to lift their second World Cup trophy.
