Argentina set a new World Cup record after beating Switzerland 3-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final. They booked a place in the semi-final with England.
After defeating 10-player Switzerland in extra time in Kansas City, thanks to Julian Alvarez’s outstanding curling effort and Lautaro Martinez’s finish, the South American giants created World Cup history.
After 10 minutes, Argentina took the lead thanks to a brilliant header by Alexis Mac Allister from a corner by Lionel Messi. Messi is still the joint-tournament leading scorer. However, he couldn’t continue his scoring streak, but he did finish the game with an assist.
Switzerland had a lot of momentum in the first half. They used another period of dominance to equalise via Dan Ndoye in the 67th minute.
