Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur: Head-to-Head record
North London is one of the biggest rivalries in world football
The Premier League is home to many big games, and the North London derby is certainly one of them. But every derby has its discovery, when it becomes famous and draws millions of fans to witness the budding rivalry between two clubs in the same city.
However, Arsenal and Tottenham derby claimed their stakes in England and Europe when Arsenal moved from their old ground, Manor Ground, Plumstead, to Arsenal Stadium, Highbury, which was just four miles away from White Hart Lane, Tottenham stadium. This stimulated Tottenham fans, who claimed the area belonged to them, and the two clubs became neighbours, sparking rivalry as both began playing local games.
And many famous games have been played between them since then. The notable 5-0 defeat of Arsenal by Tottenham in 1983, followed by a goal-fest between the two in 2004, with a total of nine goals scored in the match, which Arsenal won 5-4 at White Hart Lane.
Arsenal have won the most trophies and matches in the North London Derby. In contrast, Spurs won their last trophy in 2007, and they have yet to taste success in any competition since. Arsenal have not won a major trophy since winning the Premier League in 2004.
Both clubs have experienced significant squad overhauls as well as the appointment of new managers. And this season, they appear to be serious contenders for a trophy, though how their season ends remains to be seen.
