Aston Villa begin the new Premier League season in the shadow. Not only did they lose numerous key players during the summer transfer window, with Ezri Konsa being the most recent to depart, but their preparations for the season’s first encounter have been hampered by a series of injuries.
Unai Emery’s squad has already played competitively this season, losing 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final.

Despite the fact that a few new faces entered the treatment room, the Spaniard will focus on the positives of that trip.
“Tomorrow we’re going to train. Tomorrow, I’m going to decide with the players we have. Maybe even we can change something today or tomorrow.”
“We have enough players; we had a very good pre-season. The results, for me, not important – playing matches, watching young players, building the team, without a lot of players… we did good work.”
“Now, on Sunday, my expectation is to compete the same as we did in good matches we played in pre-season, to try to get our best. With the players we can have, I don’t know now, tomorrow I’ll see how they are, ready or not, to play on Sunday.”
Aston Villa have made some decent signings in the summer window. With the likely exit of Ollie Watkins, the club will also have to look for a striker.
Watkins has been linked with a move to Al Hilal. The Premier League giants have already rejected their initial bid as they look to keep the centre-forward for the new season.
