Athletic Club are in desperate need of a win tonight.
Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid will face off in the fourth round of LaLiga at San Mamés today. The hosts will be coming off the opening win of the season and will try to build momentum with another success.
Atletico Madrid, in contrast, will want to continue their undefeated streak. Athletic Bilbao won their first game of the season, beating Celta Vigo 2-0 on the road last weekend, after losing back-to-back.
Alex Berenguer opened the scoring in the 20th minute, and Robert Navarro doubled the advantage for the Basque side two minutes later. Despite Celta Vigo’s efforts to fight their way back into the game, Athletic Club held on to win.
The San Mamés team are missing a few players owing to injuries ahead of their second home game of the season. Benat Prados is still recovering from a thigh injury he received during training and is anticipated to return by mid-September. Dani Vivian has a groin ailment, while Unai Egiluz is still recovering from a major knee ligament injury sustained last season.
On the other side, Atletico Madrid are coming off a 3-1 win over Sevilla. Diego Simeone’s team have already gained seven points out of a possible nine and scored multiple goals in all of their league games this season.
Atletico Madrid have been the superior team in recent confrontations between these clubs, winning four of the past five head-to-heads.
