ATK Mohun Bagan: Edu Garcia signs contract extension Kolkata giants
The Spaniard has delivered commendable performances throughout his time in Indian football.
As Khel Now reported exclusivly earlier in April, Spanish midfielder Edu Garcia has signed a two-year contract extension with ATK Mohun Bagan. The 30-year-old will stay with the newfound entity until 2022 as the club looks to have rewarded him for his vital role in ATK’s triumph in the Indian Super League in the 2019-20 season.
Garcia expressed his elation on this decision as he stated, “I am very happy to continue playing in Kolkata and in the ISL for another two years. I am looking forward to wearing the Green & Maroon jersey and will give my best to the club.”
The 30-year-old had a stellar campaign in the league in 2019-20, scoring six goals and registering three assists in 16 appearances. Garcia added value to the team on the defensive front as well. He registered 2.5 tackles, one interception and 1.3 clearances per game on an average. Most importantly, he had scored a goal in ATK’s 3-1 victory over Chennaiyin FC in the final match of the 2019-20 ISL season.
One of the most integral players at Anotnio Habas' plans, the Spaniard is expected to keep his performance intact in the forthcoming 2020-21 season for ATK Mohun Bagan. Garcia has followed his teammates Jobby Justin, Roy Krishna, Pritam Kotal and several others to pen an extension with the club.
The coming together of ATK and Mohun Bagan signifies a tectonic change in the dynamics of Indian football. Both these clubs were the champions of the ISL and the I-League respectively in the 2019-20 campaign. Edu Garcia had become a mainstay in the midfield for the team in the last campaign and will become one of the most vital players as ATK Mohun Bagan aims to qualify for the AFC Champions League in near future.
