Ferran Corominas signs for Segunda B side Atletico Baleares
The former FC Goa talisman is also the highest scorer of all-time in the Indian Super League.
Former FC Goa striker Ferran Corominas, popularly known as Coro, has signed for Spanish Segunda B Division outfit Atletico Baleares, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
"Ferran Corominas is the newest addition to our squad. He is the all-time top-scorer of the Indian Super League, having scored over 50 goals in three seasons at his previous club, FC Goa. He has made 241 La Liga appearances in total for Espanyol, Elche and Osasuna," the club statement read.
Ferran Corominas began his career as a youth player at CD Banyoles and then Vilobi CF, before Espanyol signed him for their reserves team. He was then promoted to their senior team in 2003, and remained with them for the next eight seasons before Osasuna signed him on a loan deal. In the next season, he joined Girona on a free transfer, and in 2012 they sold him to Elche for €100,000. Stints at Real Mallorca and Cyprus-based Doxa Katokopias FC followed, before FC Goa came calling in 2017.
Although the centre-forward was already 34 years old when he joined the Gaurs, Ferran Corominas transformed into an impactful player with them. With 48 goals from 57 ISL matches, he is the all-time top-scorer of the Indian top-flight league - a feat which he earned in just three seasons at the club.
FC Goa recently signed Igor Angulo as the new striker, making it clear that Coro did not have a future with them despite his consistent performances across the last three years. In a recent interview with Times of India, the 37-year-old revealed that he himself was taken by surprise to know about the club's decision.
"The last three seasons (at FC Goa) have been very beautiful. I liked being part of FC Goa and the fans have been able to enjoy the team's game. I am partly disappointed because I think FC Goa did not try to retain me, and signed other players quickly. I had always said that I was happy and wanted to keep playing," he said. "It is also true that it is not only because of economic issues. Last season, several things happened that I did not like. But I did expect that FC Goa would try to make me stay for one more season because of my performance for the last three seasons."
"I've always had a good feeling with the people of Goa. I wish them all the best," Ferran Corominas concluded.
