Atletico Madrid predicted starting lineup after signing Cristian Romero

The Argentine World Cup winner is set to join Los Rojiblancos.
One of the most protracted sagas of the summer transfer window is set to conclude as Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has been given the green light to join Atletico Madrid.
According to media reports, the Argentine defender will move to the La Liga side in a move worth €40 million, which includes add-ons. The deal also contains a 15% sell-on fee clause. Inter Milan and Barcelona were also interested in Romero, but the Spurs player ultimately opted to join Diego Simeone’s side.
Romero joined Spurs in 2021 on a season-long loan from Atalanta, with the move made permanent in the following season. Across five years, he became a key part of the Tottenham defence, ultimately being handed the captain’s armband ahead of last season.
However, he never fully realised his potential in North London, with his occasional rash decisions and penchant for collecting red cards often hurting his team. As a result, head coach Roberto De Zerbi decided that Romero was someone who could be sold to raise funds, with Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke being his preferred defenders.
