The first meeting between the two nations came on 24 September 1988 in Sydney. Neither side was able to break the deadlock in a tightly contested encounter, with both defences standing firm throughout the 90 minutes. The match finished goalless, leaving the sides level in their inaugural meeting.
Egypt 3-0 Australia – International Friendly (2010)
More than two decades later, the teams met again in Cairo on 17 November 2010. Egypt produced an impressive display on home soil, registering a convincing 3-0 victory. Abdel Zaher opened the scoring before Mohamed Zidan and Ahmed Ali added further goals to complete a comfortable win. It remains Egypt’s only victory over the Socceroos and the most recent meeting between the two nations.
