Ballon d'Or 2026 results: Pere Romeu & Luis Da Le Fuente win Coach of the Year award

The two best coaches were presented with the awards.

The Johan Cruyff Trophy is the official name of the Coach of the Year award given out each year to the best-performing head coach in men’s and women’s football. The winners of this award were presented to the men and women on the touchline during the Ballon d’Or 2026 award ceremony, in addition to the individual player accolades.

The prize was introduced to recognise the achievements of the best managers in the sport and honour them with this award for leading their club to success.

Luis Enrique won the award last year and was once again among this year’s nominees, alongside other managers.

After leading Arsenal to the Premier League title, Mikel Arteta was one of five candidates for the men’s award. He was up against Luis de la Fuente, Unai Emery, Vincent Kompany, and Luis Enrique.

Jonatan Giráldez, Andrée Jeglertz, Nils Nielsen, Pere Romeu, and Elena Sadiku are among the women’s nominees who will be competing against each other for the award.

He led Spain to a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final, helping them win their second FIFA World Cup. He added the World Cup to an incredible reign that had already produced UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League.

Pere Romeu, the head coach of FC Barcelona Femeni, was named the 2026 Women’s Coach of the Year at the Ballon d’Or ceremony at the London Palladium.

The 32-year-old Catalan strategist won the prize after guiding Barcelona to a perfect trophy sweep. The team won all four major trophies that were open to them under his leadership, securing a flawless season.
