The two best young players in world football were honoured tonight.
The Kopa Trophy is one of football’s most prestigious individual awards for young players, recognising the best-performing player under the age of 21 each year. At the Ballon d’Or 2026 ceremony at the London Palladium Theatre on October 26, the two best young players in men’s and women’s football were recognised by France Football.
The men’s award was presented to Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal, while the women’s award was presented to Barcelona’s Vicky Lopez.
Yamal had an incredible season with both Barcelona and Spain. He was part of La Roja’s World Cup-winning squad. He also won LaLiga with Barca and reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Lopez won Liga F with Barca Femení. She also won the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the Copa de la Reina, and the Supercopa Femenina.
Along with the Golden Boy Award, presented by Italian publication Tuttosport, the Kopa Trophy is the pinnacle of achievement for a young player. Interestingly, this particular award allows multiple winners, letting Yamal win it for the third straight time.

Yamal had to beat strong competition to lift this third Kopa Trophy. The Barcelona prodigy was one of 10 young players nominated for the men’s award. Club teammate Pau Cubarsí was a major favourite, along with Real Madrid’s new signing Yan Diomande.
Warren Zaïre-Emery, who won the UEFA Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, was also among the nominees. Also present were FIFA World Cup 2026 stars Ayyoub Bouaddi, Kerim Alajbegović, and Johan Manzambi.
The other nominees were Ibrahim Maza, Éli Junior Kroupi, and Lennart Karl.
Five young players were also nominated for the women’s trophy. Spain youngster López, who ultimately won the trophy, was joined by club teammate Clara Serrajordi. Sweden’s Felicia Schröder, who now plays for Real Madrid, Chelsea defender Veerle Buurman, and USWNT star Lily Yohannes are the rest of the nominees.
