The Ballon d’Or 2026 shortlist are set to be revealed today, September 8, with football fans eagerly awaiting the names in contention for the prestigious individual awards. France Football will announce the nominees across all major categories, including the men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or, as well as awards for young players, goalkeepers, coaches, strikers and clubs. The men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or shortlists will each feature 30 players.
The announcement will officially kick-start the final stage of the race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The nominees will be assessed by an international jury of specialist journalists, with voters considering individual performances, decisive impact, collective achievements and trophies, as well as sporting conduct. The men’s award will be decided by journalists representing the top 100 nations in the FIFA Men’s World Ranking, while the women’s award will have a 50-member jury.
The winners will be crowned at the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony on October 26 in London, marking the first time the prestigious event will be held in the English capital. The move from Paris is a tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, the inaugural Ballon d’Or winner in 1956. The 2026 ceremony will see the men’s winner succeed Ousmane Dembélé, while the women’s winner will follow Aitana Bonmatí.
