Under the relentless industrial skyline of Leverkusen, the BayArena gears up to host the Matchweek 4 fixture in the UEFA Europa League 2026-27. Home team Bayer Leverkusen and French giants Marseille face each other in what is set to be a thrilling clash.

Bayer Leverkusen find themselves placed jointly atop the points table in the UEFA Europa League with three wins in three games. They kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 win over NK Celje before winning against Lech Poznan and getting the better of Greek outfit OFI Crete in the last game.

Bayer Leverkusen have not been consistent domestically and are coming off two consecutive defeats against Stuttgart and Hoffenheim. The upcoming match offers Leverkusen a chance to win and solidify their position at the top.

It has been nothing less than a nightmare for the French outfit, who are yet to clinch even a solitary point in the Europa League. They succumbed to defeats against Besiktas and Olympiacos and suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sturm Graz in the last game.

Bruno Genesio’s side must act fast before it’s too late. They are in dire need of wins to salvage their continental hopes. Keeping clean sheets has also not been easy for Marseille, as they conceded six goals and kept just two clean sheets in 10 games.

Jarell Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen)

After being benched against Lech Poznan, the English defender started for Bayer Leverkusen against OFI Crete in the last game and also picked up a yellow card. Bayer Leverkusen play with a high defensive line, and Quansah uses his elite recovery speed to cover the spaces behind the high line.

Ever since making a move from Anfield to Leverkusen, he has been in sublime form. He will be up against Brazilian winger Igor Paixao in the next game, and in physical tussles near the halfway line, his upper-body balance gives him an edge.

CJ Egan Riley (Marseille)

The 23-year-old defender will be up against one of the best attacking forces in the tournament, led by Patrik Schick, Diego Moreira and Lucas Vazquez. A product of Manchester City’s youth team, Egan Riley has won several accolades with City and played extensively in England before making a move to Marseille.

During transition plays and counterattacks, Egan Riley slides across to maintain a stable three-man defensive line for Marseille. The French outfit are in dire need of a win, and Egan Riley is set to play a crucial role to help them clinch their first clean sheet in Europe.
