Defending champions Bayern Munich will host 1. FC Magdeburg at the Allianz Arena in a second-round fixture of the DFB-Pokal 2026-27 on Wednesday night. Bayern, who won the German Cup last season, will look to continue their winning start to their title defence.

A 3-1 win over SC Freiburg fired Bayern Munich to the top of the Bundesliga table. Die Roten currently sit at the top, level with Borussia Dortmund on 17 points. The German giants are on a 12-match unbeaten streak in all competitions. Meanwhile, the Bavarian side also secured a 4-1 win over VfL Osnabrück in their first-round DFB-Pokal clash.

Michael Olise has led from the front, scoring an astonishing six goals, followed by four goals apiece by Harry Kane and Luis Diaz. Kane has also been a superb chance-creator for Bayern Munich, registering four assists.

Although Vincent Kompany will not be on the touchline – still recovering from his training-ground collapse – Aaron Danks’ side will be the heavy favourites for tonight’s match. Magdeburg currently play in the 2. Bundesliga, which is the second tier of German football.

FCM currently sit in fifth place in the league table with 16 points. Their last outing was a 6-1 home win over Karlsruher SC, with Mateusz Żukowski scoring twice. Four other players found the back of the net for Petrik Sander’s side.

The visitors, despite being the underdogs, will take heart from history, having eliminated Bayern Munich from the DFB-Pokal in October 2000. They, however, have not won their last three away matches across all competitions.

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)

The reigning Ballon d’Or winner will be the player to look out for against Magdeburg. The England international has already netted 10 goals in 12 matches across all competitions, including two goals against VfL Osnabrück in their cup opener.

Emmanuel Iyoha (Magdeburg)

The 29-year-old right winger has been on fire this season, leading his team’s scoring charts with six goals so far. The former German youth international scored against Karlsruher SC, marking his fifth league goal in his last five matches. His goalscoring threat will be key for the visitors if they want to test their opponents.
