The Three Lions finished as the third best in the competition.
England were one of the favourites to lift the FIFA World Cup 2026, despite the fact that they once again finished with a similar sense of crushing despair as Thomas Tuchel took a beating.
We now list which England player gave his all during the competition, as England’s World Cup ambition was dashed for an additional four years after they lost to Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
Five best English players at FIFA World Cup 2026
| Rank | Player |
| 5 | Nico O’Reilly |
| 4 | Anthony Gordon |
| 3 | Jude Bellingham |
| 2 | Bukayo Saka |
| 1 | Harry Kane |
5. Nico O’Reilly
Nico O’Reilly’s first tournament performance was impressive. Tuchel’s decision to bench him for the semi-final is all the more bizarre because he was England’s finest left-back at the World Cup.
When O’Reilly did play, he was a midfielder, but he possesses the speed to provide England with an outlet, particularly when playing in a back five.
4. Anthony Gordon
Anthony Gordon could be beneficial or terrible at different times. Gordon’s FIFA World Cup performances were quite conflicting.
He performed poorly against Ghana and Costa Rica, but he was outstanding in a 29-minute cameo against the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He scored England’s goal against Argentina and was excellent against Norway.
The new Barcelona player gave a respectable performance, recording three assists in the tournament.
3. Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham, who is consistently the guy for the big event, put up a generational performance even if he did not win the prize.
Rogers produced when his country needed him against Norway, Mexico, and Panama, but pre-tournament comments that he should start again appear absurd today. Bellingham was the joint top scorer of England, scoring six goals.
Although Tuchel’s decision to place him out wide when England took the lead made him less effective against Argentina, he was still the team’s standout player and captain overall.
2. Bukayo Saka
Despite having three assists and three goals, it felt like Bukayo Saka’s tournament wasn’t very impressive.
He was oddly missing against Argentina, and just one of the assists occurred in the knockout stages.
He may now take the time to appropriately address the unanswered fitness-related queries that surround him. He was more effective as a replacement than Noni Madueke, despite not being fully fit, who started practically every game in the competition.
Saka mainly came off the bench in every game and made a significant difference; it’s unfortunate that he didn’t play more minutes against Argentina.
1. Harry Kane

Could there still be a claim that he failed to produce when it counted most, even if he scored six goals, setting a joint record for an Englishman in a FIFA World Cup?
Harry Kane was unnoticed against Norway and Argentina and scored his final goal of the competition via a penalty kick in the 60th minute against Mexico.
Nevertheless, he is undoubtedly England’s second-best player overall.
Who scored the most goals for England in FIFA World Cup 2026?
Harry Kane scored the most goals for them in the competition.
Where did England finish in the FIFA World Cup 2026?
They finished third in the competition after win over France for third-place playoff.
