Les Bleus finished fourth in the mega competition this year!

Entering the FIFA World Cup 2026, the France national football team were considered the favourites to win the tournament. Things did not go their way, but they will leave the mega competition with several valuable lessons from their campaign.

Didier Deschamps also ends his reign as the manager of Les Bleus. He took charge in July 2012 and helped France win the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Since then, he has done a commendable job, but his final game as France’s head coach ended in a 4-6 loss against England.

Les Bleus started their campaign in a dominating fashion. They kept their composure intact until they faced Spain in the semifinal. The star-studded attack, which consisted of Kylian Mbappe, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue, Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele, failed to score a goal against La Roja’s defence. It was a 0-2 loss for the Frenchmen.

They battled the Three Lions for third place, but Didier Deschamps’ men failed again. Les Bleus conceded four goals in the first half and failed to score any in return. They were looking to make a comeback in the second half, but their efforts were not enough. There have been players who have done well on the field for France at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Let’s check out their list below.

1. Kylian Mbappe

The 27-year-old continues to be the engine for the French attack. He scored 10 goals in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and also surpassed Lionel Messi to become the all-time leading goal scorer of the mega competition during the third-place contest against England. Kylian Mbappe scored 10 goals in eight games at the flagship tournament this year. He also had four assists to his name. Mbappe is in a heated Golden Boot race with Messi.

2. Michael Olise

Michael Olise played an important role in the final third for the France national football team. In his first-ever edition of the World Cup, he was able to deliver seven assists. Without his presence in the attacking front, Les Bleus might have failed. His performances on the world stage showed his potential. Olise is yet to score a goal in the flagship tournament and must work on his finishing skills in front of the goal, as he missed two clear chances against England during the bronze medal game.

3. Dayot Upamecano

The 27-year-old was the heart of the French defence at the FIFA World Cup 2026. He has quick feet and also played a crucial part in transition for his side. With William Saliba in the backline, Dayot Upamecano stood out more due to his consistent performances for Les Bleus during the recent campaign of the mega competition.

4. Ousmane Dembele

The 2025 Ballon d’Or winner enjoyed a positive campaign at the FIFA World Cup this year. He scored six goals in eight games for the France national football team. He was quite effective on the right flank for his side. If Les Bleus went on to win the mega competition, Ousmane Dembele might have secured back-to-back Ballon d’Or awards. He surely was a strong suit for France in the attack alongside Kylian Mbappe.

5. Bradley Barcola

Bradley Barcola completely showed what he is capable of. With his fast pace and quick feet, he was a constant threat to the opponent’s defence during the FIFA World Cup 2026. Didier Deschamps preferred him over Desire Doué, and it turned out to be the right decision. There is still a lot of room for Barcola to improve, but his performances were a highlight for Les Blues at the flagship tournament this year. He had four goal contributions in eight games.

How many times have France won FIFA World Cup?

Les Bleus have conquered the world twice (1998, 2018).
