Bosnia & Herzegovina starting lineup vs USA confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match

The USA and Bosnia-Herzegovina have faced each other three times before in friendly games.

Bosnia-Herzegovina are ready to lock horns against the co-hosts, the USA, in the FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 32. The Zmajevi Ba have advanced from the group stage for the first time in their history, and they will not let the opportunity go to waste. The knockout clash will be played at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Wednesday, July 1st.

Bosnia-Herzegovina were drawn in Group B alongside co-hosts Canada, Qatar and Switzerland. In the opening game, they faced Canada and held Jesse Marsch’s side to a 1-1 draw. Jovo Lukic scored Bosnia’s first goal in the 2026 edition.

The Zmajevi Ba then suffered a harsh 4-1 defeat against Group B leaders Switzerland on Matchday 2. After no goals in the first 70 minutes, five goals were netted in the last 20 minutes (excluding the added time).

Johan Manzambi scored twice for Switzerland, while Ruben Vargas and Granit Xhaka also netted one goal each. Ermin Mahmic scored the only goal for Bosnia-Herzegovina while Tarik Muharemovic saw a red card. However, they gave a strong performance against Qatar in a do-or-die game.

The Zmajevi Ba defeated Qatar 3-1 on Matchday 3, courtesy of goals from Kerim Alajbegovic and Ermin Mahmic, while Mahmud Abunada scored an own goal. While Bosnia might not head into the round-of-32 clash as the favourites, they will still pose tough competition to the co-hosts.

Thoughts on the lineup

Ermedin Demirović and captain Edin Džeko will continue to lead Bosnia-Herzegovina’s offence in the historic clash against the USA. They will be joined by Kerim Alajbegović in the attack.

Ivan Sunjić and Armin Gigović will support the side from midfield while creating goalscoring opportunities.

Amar Dedić and Sead Kolašinac will be on the flanks in the backline, while Nihad Katić, Stjepan Radeljić and Tarik Muharemović will take charge as the centre-back trio. Nikola Vasilj will keep the gloves.
