The Reds edged their depleted hosts tonight.

Brentford hosted Liverpool in a Matchday 7 fixture of the Premier League 2026-27 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Second-half goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak secured a 2-1 comeback win for the Reds against their nine-man opponents.

The hosts started the match on the front foot and were rewarded for their efforts just before half-time. Igor Thiago’s cross was beautifully met by Keane Lewis-Potter, whose header gave Alisson Becker no chance in the Reds’ goal.

However, the situation turned for the worse for the hosts in the first-half stoppage time when Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off for a tussle with Jeremy Jacquet. The Reds capitalised on their numerical advantage in the 62nd minute, with Victor Munoz equalising.

Alexander Isak scored to give the visitors the lead just eight minutes later. The Bees tried their best to find an equaliser and rescue a point, but the visitors held firm for all three points. The hosts were further reduced to nine men when Vitaly Janelt was shown a second yellow card in the 92nd minute.

Five things we learned from Brentford vs Liverpool match:

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

1. The Bees capitalise on their chances

The first half was not what one would call an end-to-end game of football. Although there were a total of 13 shots from both sides, Brentford and Liverpool posted xG figures of 0.53 and 0.66, respectively.

There was just a solitary shot on target, and that resulted in Lewis-Potter’s goal in the 44th minute. The hosts’ clinical nature under Keith Andrews has been well documented, and that was evident once again tonight.

2. Red card turns the match

If there’s one moment that took the match out of the hosts’ hands, it was when Yarmoliuk was given his marching orders in the eighth minute of first-half stoppage time.

Whether or not the Ukrainian’s actions could be called a “headbutt” will be debated, but being down a man in midfield allowed the Reds to come back into the contest, resulting in their comeback win.

3. Isak continues scoring touch

Alexander Isak is yet to truly kick-start his Liverpool career following his record-breaking transfer from Newcastle United. He has been hampered by injuries this season as well, but the Swede did find the back of the net in the previous league outing against Bournemouth.

His 70th-minute goal was a fine finish, but it also meant he had scored in consecutive Premier League matches for the second time this season. Andoni Iraola will hope his star striker can continue this streak.

4. Jacquet steals the spotlight

Young Jeremy Jacquet put in a wonderful shift in the heart of the Liverpool defence alongside Virgil van Dijk. The Frenchman had the joint-most defensive contributions throughout the game, including a brilliant last-man tackle. He was also involved in getting Yarmoliuk sent off, turning the tide of the match towards his side.

5. Barcola continues to shine

Having scored a hat-trick against LASK Linz, Bradley Barcola was expected to kick into a different gear against Brentford tonight. The former Paris Saint-Germain man did make a few poor decisions in the first half, but he had a great outing in the second half.

He had the most touches in the Bees’ box (11) and took joint-most shots (4), constantly troubling Caoimhin Kelleher. He also set up Isak’s winner with a beautiful ball, showing why the Reds invested so much money in him in the summer.
