The season was very entertaining with several noteworthy individual performances.
The entertaining football in the Bundesliga never fails to impress. During the 2021-22 season as well, the football enthusiasts witnessed superb football. FC Bayern Munich maintained their supremacy with yet another league win. This was their 10th successive Bundesliga triumph.
Looking back at the season, some players showed consistency to become the best performers in their respective positions. Here is a look at which players make it into the Khel Now’s Bundesliga Team of the Season for the 2021-22 campaign:
GK - Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)
Manuel Neuer was solid as ever in the goal for FC Bayern Munich. The custodian finished with 10 clean sheets (joint top) from merely 28 appearances. He was ever so adventurous with his positioning as a goalkeeper and showed that he is still amongst the best in his role across Europe.
RB - Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkeusen)
Jeremie Frimpong was a breath of fresh air in the past Bundesliga season. The 21-year-old turned a lot of heads with his industrious performance and electric pace. Playing for Bayer Leverkusen, the right-back showed maturity beyond his years. He contributed with six assists in the league and helped the club finish third.
CB - Nico Schlotterbeck (SC Freiburg)
Nico Schlotterbeck's tremendous season with SC Freiburg earned him a summer move to Borussia Dortmund. The German averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.8 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per game, with a 74.7% success rate in aerial duels. Aside from his solid defensive numbers, the centre-back has also scored four goals and completed the third most number of dribbles (23) in the Bundesliga this season.
CB - Evan Ndicka (Eintracht Frankfurt)
22-year-old Evan Ndicka had a breakthrough season for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. He was astute defensively as he ranked top for the most aerial duels (112) in the league this season. In fact, Ndicka made eight goal contributions this season, which is same Baern Munich's Kingsley Coman.
LB - David Raum (TSG Hoffenheim)
David Raum was in exceptional form for TSG Hoffenheim despite the club’s poor overall performance in the table. He was the leading defender in the division in terms of providing assists (13). He had 86 key passes too, the second-best tally in the league. The 24-year-old also scored three goals to cement his position as the best left-back in the league.
CDM - Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)
Joshua Kimmich is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. The German maintained his high standards across the 2021-22 campaign to help Bayern Munich to a tenth league title in a row. He finished with 12 assists and three goals, making a difference in both attack and defence. He also made 85 key passes, the sixth-best in the league.
CAM - Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig)
Christopher Nkunku was arguably the player of the season in the German Bundesliga 2021-22. The attacking midfielder was in an incredible vein of form. He scored a whopping 20 goals (fourth-best) in the league and provided a further 15 assists (third-best). He played in all of the 34 games for RB Leipzig and finished with 35 goal contributions.
RW - Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)
Marco Reus has always been exceptionally talented, but his career has been marred by frequent injuries. However, this season he remained injury free playing 29 games, and racking up the most minutes in a single league season in his Dortmund career. He was pivotal to the team's second-placed finish in the Bundesliga season, notching up nine goals and 12 assists.
LW - Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich)
Serge Gnabry continued to impress while playing for FC Bayern Munich. The winger was a consistent performer with 14 goals and six assists in 34 appearances, his best ever output for the Bavarian giants. Furthermore, he created 17 big chances along with 63 successful dribbles (fifth-highest). The 26-year-old continues to be one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga and takes his place in the Team of the Season.
ST- Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund)
No Bundesliga team of the season can be complete without the inclusion of Erling Haaland. The Manchester City-bound striker missed 11 matches due to injury but that didn't deter his goalscoring exploits. He finished with 22 goals and seven assists in just 23 games. The Norweigan will hope to continue his goalscoring spree under Pep Guardiola next season.
ST - Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)
The best striker in the league (yet again) was Robert Lewandowski. It is a position that saw incredible competition from the likes of Erling Haaland and Patrick Schick. However, the Polish international was in a league of his own. He finished with 35 goals and won the golden boot yet again. Having said that, this was probably Lewandowski’s last season with FCB with the striker set to move on to a new club next term.
