After the successful conclusion of the Group stages and Round of 32, the 2026 FIFA World Cup have some noteworthy Round of 16 fixtures in place, and Canada vs Morocco is one of them. This encounter between them is expected to be close, as both teams have played brilliantly in the tournament so far.

Canada are one of the hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but their campaign started on a disappointing note. Bosnia & Herzegovina held them to a 0-0 draw. Their following game was a convincing 6-0 win over Qatar. Canada’s last group stage fixture ended in a 2-1 loss against Switzerland. They faced South Africa in the Round of 32 and scored in the additional time to qualify for the last 16.

Morocco, on the other hand, outplayed the most successful teams in World Cup history, Brazil, in their opening game and held them to a 1-1 draw. However, they secured their first win of the tournament against Scotland and followed that up with a 4-2 win against Haiti. Their clash against the Netherlands was one of the headline clashes in the Round of 32, and they clinched a victory on penalties.

5. Tajon Buchanan vs Noussair Mazraoui

Canada’s attack have seen inconsistency in this competition so far. However, Tajon Buchanan has performed on a great level so far for the hosts. He was a crucial part of Villareal’s team during the 2025/26 season. He is an electric winger who can burst past any defender. However, Noussair Mazraoui is a rock-solid defensive fullback and will be the one to mark the Canadian international.

His decision-making will be key, as Achraf Hakimi can shut him down very quickly with his blistering pace.

Brahim Diaz is Morocco’s key attacker. He is their star man around whom all of the attacking sequences are built. Apart from his offensive contributions, Brahim Diaz also helps out defensively. Richie Laryea will have to be on his toes the entire game if Canada wants to neutralise Morocco’s biggest attacking threat.
