Carlos Baleba took the next step in his young career, joining Manchester United from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Red Devils will pay an initial £65 million for the Cameroonian midfielder, with a further £5 million in add-ons.
The Premier League giants confirmed the signing on Tuesday, revealing that Baleba signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford. United have the option to extend the contract by one year. As part of the transfer deal, Brighton will have a sell-on clause.
This concludes one of the longest-running transfer sagas, with United unsuccessfully trying to sign Baleba last season. Although Brighton refused to sell their prized asset last season, the Mancunian side have now got their man.
The Red Devils will need to be patient to see their new player in action, though. Baleba is currently out with an ankle ligament injury. He is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury and is expected to be sidelined for a short period.
The 22-year-old Cameroon international is expected to walk into the starting lineup of a new-look United midfield. That also features Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. Baleba, who has already established himself as one of the most exciting young midfielders in the world, will have the chance to win his first team trophy with United.
“I cannot wait to work with Michael Carrick; his experience and knowledge of the game make him the perfect coach to help me to reach the highest level,” Baleba said after signing the contract.
“The ambition of everyone at the club is extremely clear, the future is hugely exciting, and I am determined to play my part in delivering the success that we are capable of together.”
