The Black Panthers will be hoping to turn around their fortunes in this campaign.
Ahead of the Calcutta Football League (CFL) season starting next month, Mohammedan Sporting Club have registered 25 players for the league in two consecutive days.
The Black Panthers featured in the 2nd Division I-League last season, but they failed to make it out of the group stages. Although, the side looked strong on paper after securing the services of Fikru Lamessa, the Ethiopian forward failed to impress in the league. But, a lot has changed since then with players not performing up to the mark and managers being axed, the club experienced yet another disappointing campaign.
The board decided to release Fikru and to make a new beginning they appointed a new experienced manager in Raghu Nandy. The former Southern Samity and George Telegraph coach is a well-known name in Kolkata Maidan and will look to bring about a change in fortunes for the Black Panthers in the new CFL season.
Mohammedan have also roped in some well-known players for the new season as Leonce Dodoz and Arup Debnath from Aizawl FC have joined their ranks. Dodoz had been very impressive for the Reds last season and will now look to give his best for the Black and Whites.
With his compatriot, Lancine Toure retained as the second foreigner and with the likes of Jewel Raja, Dipendu Dowary and Prasenjit Pal joining, the quality in their ranks is pretty decent to make a mark in the league.
