The Blues welcome Luton in their first round of EFL Cup game tonight.
Tonight, Jack Wilshere’s Luton Town will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the EFL Cup second round.
The two clubs last met in December 2023, when the Blues battled off a late Hatters comeback to win the Premier League game 3-2 at Kenilworth Road.
Xabi Alonso’s stint as Chelsea coach began on Monday night with a thrilling 3-2 triumph against West London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage, which was the Blues’ first triumph in a new Premier League campaign since 2022-23.
The focus now shifts to the EFL Cup, which Chelsea have won five times but have not lifted since 2015, most recently reaching the semi-finals of last season’s championship before losing 4-2 to Arsenal over two legs.
The Blues will be overwhelming favourites to beat Luton, and they should be certain of success after winning 27 of their last 28 games against EFL Cup clubs from outside the top division, including each of the last 19 since losing a penalty shootout to Burnley in November 2008.
After finishing the 2025-26 season on a high note with a 12-game undefeated streak across all competitions (W9 D3), Luton have subsequently recorded two victories and one tie in their first three games of the new campaign.
