The Paraguay vs France match took place tonight at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
France took on Paraguay in an exciting Round of 16 clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 on July 4. Les Bleus, who have won all their matches in the expanded 48-team edition in North America, entered the match as the overwhelming favourites, but were frustrated by the Paraguayan defence in the first half.
Les Bleus could not even muster a shot on Orlando Gill’s goal until just before the hydration break. The Paraguayan goalkeeper was largely unbothered for most of the first 45 minutes, with the French frontline struggling to link up and find space in their opposition’s half.
La Albirroja, on the other hand, were happy to sit back and soak up pressure and try to hit their opponents on the counter. Overall, it was a largely cagey first half, with chances at a premium.
