The 2026 FIFA World Cup is currently underway, and the competition has finally reached the Round of 16 stage. Every fixture is like a final for every team remaining in the competition, as a loss will result in heartbreak and elimination. Although the national teams compete in this prestigious competition, the tournament also holds significant importance for the world’s best clubs.

After the successful conclusion of the 2025/26 season, players joined their national teams. The higher the number of their players playing in the biggest tournament in the world, the more it serves as a testament to the quality, depth, and experience of the squads of these clubs.

The Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup yet again features players from the biggest clubs in the world. The more important a player is to their national team, the more it serves as a compliment to these clubs. In this article, we will take a look at the clubs with the most players playing in the last 16 stages of the FIFA World Cup.

10. Aston Villa – 7 players

Aston Villa have established themselves as one of the most improved sides in English football over the last few years. The reigning UEFA Europa League champions had 10 players playing in the competition, and seven of them reached the Round of 16. Ezri Konsa, Morgan Rogers, and Ollie Watkins were part of the England side that knocked out DR Congo. Youri Tielemans scored a brace against Senegal to lead Belgium and Amadou Onana to the next round. Lucas Digne and Emiliano Martinez also played important roles in the qualification of France and Argentina, respectively.

Eight Manchester United players are still playing for teams playing in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Noussair Mazraoui is part of Morocco’s squad. Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot are key players of the Portuguese squad. Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford will face Mexico with England. Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens, and Lisandro Martínez will also compete in the Round of 16 with Brazil, Belgium, and Argentina, respectively.

AC Milan is one of the most successful teams in football history. They have won seven UEFA Champions League titles and are among the most successful Italian clubs of all time. They are being represented by Mike Maignan, Adrien Rabiot, Santiago Giménez, Rafael Leão, Christian Pulisic, Alexis Saelemaekers, Koni De Winter, and Ardon Jashari in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

7. Crystal Palace: 9 Players

Coming in at number seven is Crystal Palace. The Premier League is regarded as the best league in the world by many, and the fact that we have three English clubs on the list already solidifies this argument. Their players playing in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup are Dean Henderson, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Maxence Lacroix, Jørgen Strand Larsen, Yéremy Pino, Chris Richards, Daniel Muñoz, Jefferson Lerma, and Chadi Riad.

6. Al Ahly SC: 9 Players

The most surprising inclusion on this list is that of the Egyptian club, Al Ahly SC. Mohamed El Shenawy, Mostafa Shobeir, Mohamed Hany, Yasser Ibrahim, Marwan Ateya, Emam Ashour, Ahmed Sayed, and Mahmoud Hassan are all Egyptian internationals and have played a key role in taking their nation to the last 16 after an impressive win over Australia in the previous round. Achraf Bencharki is the only non-Egyptian player from Al Ahly still playing in the competition, as he was part of the Moroccan team that defeated the Netherlands.

5. Atlético Madrid: 11 Players

Coming in at number five is one of the most successful Spanish clubs in the 21st Century, Atlético Madrid. The fact that 11 of their players are still playing in the FIFA World Cup shows the quality and talent that is embedded in Diego Simeone’s squad. Alexander Sørloth has played a crucial role in Norway’s front line. Julián Alvarez, Nahuel Molina, Juan Musso, Nicolás González, Thiago Almada, and Giuliano Simeone are some of the key players for the defending champions, Argentina. Marcos Llorente, Marc Pubill, Álex Baena, and Alejandro Grimaldo are also key figures for Spain.

4. Manchester City: 11 Players

The fourth spot on the list belongs to the reigning FA Cup and EFL Cup winners, Manchester City. Their leading man, Erling Haaland, is also the target man of the Norwegian national team. Jeremy Doku, Omar Marmoush, and Rayan Cherki are also still hustling it out against defenders in the FIFA World Cup for their countries. Marc Guéhi, James Trafford, and Nico O’Reilly were also trusted by Thomas Tuchel to be a part of the English squad. Savinho was selected for Brazil. Matheus Nunes and Ruben Dias are important players for the Portuguese backline, and Rodri is performing exceptionally well for Spain.

3. Paris Saint-Germain: 12 Players

The defending UEFA Champions League winners are placed third on this list. Portugal’s core is made up of players playing for PSG like Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, João Neves, and Gonçalo Ramos. They also have the likes of Ousmane Dembélé,  Bradley Barcola,  Désiré Doué, and Lucas Hernández representing them at the Round of 16. Fabian Ruiz, Achraf Hakimi, and Marquinhos are amongst the most important players for Spain, Morocco, and Brazil, respectively.

2. Arsenal: 12 Players

Arsenal won the English Premier League for the first time since 2003 during the 2025/26 season. They had one of the deepest squads in the league with talented players in all positions. Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi, and David Raya are providing depth to Spain’s midfield and goalkeeping positions. Gabriel Magalhães and Gabriel Martinelli are key figures in Brazil’s defence and attack, respectively. Leandro Trossard, Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, and Martin Ødegaard are the rest of the Arsenal players playing in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup.

Topping our list are the Catalan Kings, FC Barcelona. They stand above every other club in the world when it comes to having their players perform at the grandest stage of football. Eight of their 13 players are helping out Spain in their pursuit of the second-ever FIFA World Cup title, and their names are Joan García, Eric García, Pau Cubarsí, Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, and Ferran Torres. Jules Koundé is the starting right back for France. Marcus Rashford and their new signing, Anthony Gordon, have been excelling for England. Hamza Abdelkarim and Raphinha are also contributing to Egypt and Brazil.
