Colombia starting lineup vs Switzerland confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 match

Colombia and Switzerland have faced each other in the FIFA World Cup before.

Colombia was drawn in group K at the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal, the DR Congo, and Uzbekistan. Portugal were seen as the likely candidate to top the group; however, Los Cafeteros did not give a single weak performance to let that happen.

They started their campaign with a 3-1 win over World Cup debutants Uzbekistan. In the second game, they secured their second win in the tournament over DR Congo, courtesy of a goal from Daniel Munoz. In the final group-stage game, they played out a goalless draw against Roberto Martinez’s Portugal.

After topping Group K, they faced Ghana in their round-of-16 clash and secured another narrow 1-0 win. Jhon Arias scored in the 14th minute to help the Los Cafeteros take an early lead over the Black Stars. Now, in the pre-quarterfinals, they are set to face Group B toppers Switzerland at BC Place in Vancouver.

Thoughts on the lineup

Camilo Vargas, who has kept three clean sheets in four games for Los Cafeteros, will start in the goal. Daniel Muñoz and Johan Mojica will continue to play at the flanks in the backline, while Davinson Sánchez and Jhon Lucumí will feature as the center-back duo.

Jhon Arias, who scored the match-winning goal in Colombia’s 1-0 victory over Ghana, will play on the wing alongside Luis Díaz. Luis Suárez, who would be playing at Jhon Córdoba’s spot, will feature at centre forward.

Jefferson Lerma and Gustavo Puerta will be responsible for controlling the game’s tempo and providing the framework.
