Ronaldo has shut down any speculation of retirement.

Portugal overcame Croatia 2-1 courtesy of a penalty goal by Cristiano Ronaldo, moving to the next round, the Round of 16. But Ronaldo supporters were taken aback before the game. His sister dropped the news of his retirement like a bullet.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, has recently stated that the renowned forward’s professional football career may soon come to an end.

Speaking to Portuguese media Sport TV, Aveiro implored fans to cherish every moment of his involvement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. She stated that she feels this tournament represents his final competitive campaign. She stated that her knowledge came from a trustworthy source close to the incident.

Aveiro mentioned this while urging the people to celebrate his farewell. She also highlighted the enormous task of replacing a player who has scored 200 goals for the national team.

“I believe it’s not today that they’ll say goodbye, but it’s coming soon. So enjoy it a lot because it will be difficult to find someone after 200 goals. I’m talking about the Portuguese national team”

I don’t make reckless decisions. I will decide after the tournament, not now,” he said after the game.

Going all the way to World Cup success for that “last dance” will be a difficult task for a Portugal squad that is no longer on the same footing with the best in the world.

If Ronaldo does decide to retire from international football after the 2026 World Cup, he hopes to do so on July 19, when Portugal win the final for the first time. The golden trophy is the only missing honour in his own collection. It would be a fitting way to top off a magnificent career with the Seleção das Quinas.
