Earlier, Ronaldo revealed he played in his last World Cup.

After Portugal‘s UEFA Nations League encounter against Wales at José Alvalade Stadium, where his career started, Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly planning to retire from international football.

Before ending his international career, he would be able to say goodbye to the Portugal national team fans at home on this occasion.

Sports journalist Mohammed Awaad revealed:

“I spoke with a Portuguese agent who told me that Cristiano Ronaldo could retire from international football after playing just one more match for Portugal. According to him, that match would be against Wales in the UEFA Nations League at the José Alvalade Stadium, where Ronaldo began his career, and would serve as his farewell appearance for the national team.”

After winning two Nations League trophies and the UEFA Euro, Cristiano Ronaldo is anticipated to end his career with the national team.

It remains to be seen, though, if the rumours are accurate. However, the striker still appears driven to captain the country for a few more years.

Despite this, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sixth attempt to win the World Cup ended heartbreakingly. They lost 1-0 to Spain and were eliminated from the tournament.

The Portuguese football player, who has participated in six World Cups overall, recently said that the 2026 tournament will be his final one. On July 6, Portugal lost to Spain, ending their journey this year.

Ronald already played his last World Cup this summer

Since making his debut in 2006, Ronaldo has participated in the World Cup six times. He was among the oldest players to compete in the FIFA World Cup 2026, aged 41.

“I’m thankful even for the attacks I receive, turning 40 — and I hope to live another 40 years — with the criticism, that’s how you grow the most as a person, and I thank you journalists for that,” Ronaldo said during a press conference on July 5, per ESPN.

Ronaldo is still going to play football even if the 2026 edition was his final World Cup. Before Portugal’s round-of-16 match against Spain, the athlete made the above statement at a news conference.
