Three players Liverpool can sign to replace Inter Milan-bound Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones’ departure brings an end to a 16-year chapter with the Reds.

Liverpool’s long-serving midfielder, Curtis Jones, is set for a permanent transfer to Inter Milan, media reports have confirmed. Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the 25-year-old is set to join the Nerazzurri in a deal worth €35 million.

This brings a definitive conclusion to one of the longest-running transfer sagas in the summer window. Jones had long been tipped for an exit from the Reds and is now set to leave his boyhood club, which he joined at the age of nine.

With Jones’s exit all but sealed, head coach Andoni Iraola will need to secure a capable replacement with less than two weeks left in the transfer window. Although not a confirmed starter, Jones did make 49 appearances across all competitions last season, which made him one of the players most utilised by Arne Slot.

Iraola will now need to dip into the transfer market and target a box-to-box midfielder who can dictate the tempo of the game, a task that is not easy with so little time left in the transfer window. Let’s look at some options that the Reds boss can consider.

Crystal Palace’s midfield maestro has been one of the most in-demand English players in the Premier League and has been a transfer target for Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid. Wharton would surely be an influential signing for Iraola’s side and would be a long-term reinforcement of the Reds’ midfield.

The only concern would be the £78 million price tag set by Palace, although it would still represent a solid purchase.

2. Lamine Camara

SportWitness reported that Liverpool are extremely interested in Monaco’s Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara. Like Wharton, he is also 22 years old, and the Ligue 1 side is demanding upwards of €60 million for his signature. Crystal Palace reportedly had a €35 million bid rejected, though the Reds would likely push for an improved bid to secure the youngster.

3. Kaishu Sano

Japanese midfielder Kaishu Sano has been superb for Mainz, making 48 appearances across all competitions last season. The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga, and the Reds are strongly interested in securing his services, according to TEAMtalk.

However, Mainz’s sporting director Christian Heidel claimed that the German team would not sell Sano, and interested clubs would need to pay at least €60 million to start negotiations.
