David Silva comes out of retirement to join Hong Kong club Supreme Sha Tin
The midfielder earlier retired due to a serious injury.
Midfielder David Silva has come out of retirement to play again for a Hong Kong team. Silva, 40, retired from the game three years ago after suffering a major knee injury while playing for Real Sociedad.
However, the former Manchester City great is set to return to the pitch with Supreme Sha Tin, who have pulled off an incredible deal to lure Silva to Asia. Sha Tin were recently promoted to Hong Kong’s top flight. They signed English manager Tom Ballantyne as their new manager earlier this week.
Silva had a successful career at both club and international levels, winning the World Cup and two European Championships for Spain. His 10-year tenure with City saw him win 13 trophies. However, those triumphs are now under examination after the team was found guilty of violating Premier League financial regulations – a decision that they have challenged.
Meanwhile, Sha Tin have quickly risen to the Hong Kong Premier League. David Silva may make his debut as soon as October 18 after signing a ‘short-term deal’.

Sha Tin declared the player’s arrival with an Instagram post:
“Yo! Absolute madness! We are officially announcing that the legendary Spanish No. 21 midfielder, David Silva, has officially joined Supreme Sha Tin!”
The club added: “David Silva will be in Hong Kong soon to settle in, link up with squad training, and build up to peak match fitness before making his pitch debut. Stay tuned!”
In a video message to the Sha Tin’s fans, Silva said: “Hello everyone, I’m David Silva. I am very happy to join Supreme Sha Tin for this experience; I’m really looking forward to going to Hong Kong to enjoy the culture, the people, and the food in Sha Tin – and the football in Hong Kong, of course. I can’t wait to go, so I look forward to seeing you all soon. Best regards.”
