All you need to know about SAFF Women's Club Championship 2025

The SAFF Women’s Club Championship 2025 will be held in Nepal.

In what is going to be a significant new development for women’s football in Asia, the first-ever SAFF Women’s Club Championship 2025 is set to take place in Kathmandu, Nepal, from December 5.

The two-week tournament will feature teams from five different SAFF Member Associations, competing to prove themselves as the best club in the SAFF Division. This will certainly be a one-of-a-kind tournament; previously, the SAFF Championship was for men’s national teams.

However, in an effort to further popularise women’s football and give teams from different member associations a chance to test their mettle against each other, SAFF members have decided to create this new tournament to give more prominence to the women’s teams

Here we take a look at everything you need to know about the 2025 SAFF Women’s Club Championship.

When and where will the SAFF Women’s Club Championship 2025 be held?

The first-ever edition of the SAFF Club Championship will be held entirely in Nepal. All the matches are scheduled to take place at Dasharath Rangasala Stadium, which also hosts the home matches for the Nepal national football team, as well as the Nepal Super League and Nepal Women’s League (for the Kathmandu-based clubs).

The SAFF Women’s Club Championship will start on 5 December 2025. In the first match, Bhutan Transport United will face the Pakistan club Karachi City WFC. The tournament will go on until 20 December (2025), when the grand finale will take place at the Dasharath Rangasala as well.

Which teams are participating in it?

For the first-ever edition of the SAFF Women’s Club Championship, five teams will face each other in an initial group-stage format. There have been teams selected from the five SAFF member associations, which include India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.

Representing Indian Women’s Football in the tournament is East Bengal, who are heavy favorites to win the tournament after their appearance in the 2025-26 AFC Women’s Champions League.

Hosts Nepal will be represented by the APF Women’s team, one of the most prestigious teams in Nepal women’s football.

APF won the Nepal Women’s League Title six times, including four times since 2017. They have played in the AFC Women’s Champions League preliminary stages in two seasons, but never qualified for the group stages.

Karachi City WFC are representing Pakistan in the SAFF Women’s Club Championship. They won the 2024 Pakistan National Women’s Football Championship title.

Bhutan are represented by Transport United, one of the oldest women’s football clubs from the country. The fifth team in the tournament are the Bangladesh side Nasrin SC, who won the Bangladesh Women’s Football League title in the 2023-24 campaign.

How does the SAFF Women’s Club Championship Work?

As only five clubs are participating in the first-ever SAFF Women’s Club Championship, the organizers have opted for a round-robin style format for the initial stages. That means all teams will face each other in the round-robin stages, with every team guaranteed to play at least four matches in the competition.

After the final set of round-robin matches on 17 December (2025), the teams that are assuming the top two places in the standings will move on to the final, where the champion of the inaugural SAFF Women’s Club Championship will be declared on 20 December. The teams with the most points after four matches played (for every team) will be playing in the final.

If multiple teams are tied on the same points after the round-robin stages are over, goal difference will come into contention to determine the top two teams. If the match cannot be settled on goal difference, then the superior goals scored will be considered to determine which teams advance to the final.
