This isn’t the first time Trump refused to leave the award stage.

As Spain raised the World Cup title after defeating Argentina, Donald Trump ignored Gianni Infantino’s pleas to remain on the stage with them.

In the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final at MetLife Stadium, Spain defeated ten-man Argentina 1-0. Following Enzo Fernández’s red card, Ferran Torres scored the game-winning goal after coming off the bench to help the European champions win the World Cup.

The game began with a challenging forty-five minutes after several supporters were unable to enter the arena. All thanks to increased security following Donald Trump’s presence, which resulted in him being jeered by those there.

Argentina were unable to establish a presence in the match. They did not attempt a single shot, even in extra time. Spain maintained their lead in the second half of extra time and won the game.

Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino entered the pitch before the awards presentation. The audience, who had previously shown their disapproval of the 80-year-old during the national anthems, jeered him once more.

After all the excitement subsided, Donald Trump eventually gave the World Cup trophy to Spain and captain Rodri. But Trump chose to stay, just like he did at the FIFA Club World Cup Final (2025) a year ago. Instead of letting the team and captain have their moment, Trump went for the limelight.

Donald Trump refused to leave the end of the platform, so Infantino had to trot across the podium to reach him. Rodri and his colleagues didn’t appear to mind that there was an unwelcome visitor, as he raised the trophy and started the festivities. Later, Trump was escorted away so the Spanish players could enjoy themselves alone.

Why did Donald Trump refuse to leave the stage as Spain lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy?

He wanted to be in the spotlight when Spain lifted the trophy.

What was the final scoreline of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final?

Spain 1-0 Argentina.
